10th Assembly: INEC declares Obasa, Abdulkareem winners

Today marks another leap for the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has he was declared winner of the 2023 Agege 1 state constituency election.

Obasa who by the newly gotten mandate makes a sixth term return to occupy the Agege 1 constituency’s seat at state House of Assembly through the Governorship and House of Assembly election held on Saturday 18th March 2023, reaffirmed his stake as the most ranking member of the state legislature.

Dr Lukman Adeniji, the INEC Returning Officer for the Agege House of Assembly election, made the declaration on Sunday at the Collation Centre in Orile Agege area of the state.

According to him, Obasa polled 17, 214 votes to beat his rivals, Mr Raheem Alani, of the Labour Party who had 3,933 votes in the Saturday’s state House of Assembly elections.

The name of the PDP candidate also jostling for the seat though not stated on result sheet polled a total of 1,609 votes while Kafayat Biobaku ADC candidate polled 62 votes.

Adeniji said that Obasa, having scored the highest votes at the election, had won the state Assembly election for the Agege constituency 1.

“ Mubashiru Obasa, of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, has scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Adeniji said.

Adeniji said only 8 parties contested in the election in Agege constituency 1.

Obasa is currently the speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly.

However, the former Agege Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Jubreel Abdulkareem won Agege constituency 2 Assembly seat and thus makes the list of new entrants that will make the 10th Assembly that will be proclaimed sometime in June this year.

Abdulkareem of APC, polled 15,676. votes to defeat Labour Party and PDP candidates who polled 7,159 and 1,598 respectively.

The duo would represent Agege constituency 1 and 2 at the state Assembly in the next political dispensation in Lagos.
