2 Ekiti health workers, 3 others test positive for Covid-19

EKITI State government said five persons have been infected with the deadly Coronavirus disease, bringing to 25 the number of confirmed cases in the state.

The victims who included two health workers and three patients at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, FETHI, were the recent cases.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade made this known on Wednesday, while briefing newmen at the Government House, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Yaya-Kolade said the new index cases contracted the disease from a 75 year old woman who was transferred from Omu-Aran in Kwara State to Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti but later died of Covid-19-related complications.

She noted that the two health workers are currently asymptomatic to the dreaded virus, adding that the patients are stable and responding to treatment.

She further said the state government is currently disinfecting the isolation centre to keep the centre safe and free of the virus.

The Commissioner urged the people of the state to stay safe and always obey the instructions of the government in the efforts to stop the spread of the pandemic in the state.

Also speaking, the Ekiti State COVID-19 Task Force Coordinator, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, called on the people of the state to collaborate with the government in its efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
