The Third edition of the annual Lagosreads Inter-Schools Quiz Competition among selected Public Secondary Schools took place recently at the Local Government Civil Service Commission Training School Hall, Ikeja.
The Inter-School Quiz Competition was organised by the office of the Special Adviser on Education through its agency, Lagos State Library Board.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Philip Wahab who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Waheed Kasali charges Students/Youths across the State to regularly update their knowledge through effective and meaningful readings and shun all clandestine activities that can undermine the growth of education in the state.
“As you are all aware, achieving sustainable educational development is one of the priorities of this administration, which is the reason why Education and Technology occupy prominent place in the Six Pillars of the Development Agenda of the State Government “.
The Special Adviser added that “Mr. Governor has given approval for the renovation and digitalization of all Public Secondary Schools libraries so as to encourage Public Secondary Students to read and have access to computer education without any hinderance.
He charges Students/Youths across the State to justify government continued investments in education by regularly updating their knowledge.
The Director/CEO of the Board, Mr. Asimiyu Amao Oyadipe remarked that Lagosreads is an initiative geared at improving the reading culture of all Lagosians especially the youths by enabling, facilitating and promoting reading programmes and activities in schools as well as public and private libraries across Lagos State.
He stated that, the Board, under the supervision of the Office of the Special Adviser on Education, OSAE, is committed to the actualisation of the Education policy through the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Highlights of the Quiz Competition include a motivational speech by Lagosreads Ambassador, Mr. Olubayode Treasure – Olawunmi who reinterated the importance of reading among youths.
According to him, “failure can never overtake me if my desire and my determination to succeed is strong”.
The Quiz master, Mr. M.A. Ojutiku, a retired Permanent Secretary/Tutor – General did justice to the questions that cover English Language, Literature – in – English, Physics, Maths, Economics, Biology and Current Affairs.
Six Public Secondary Schools, selected across the State, participated in the keenly contested Quiz Competition.
Lagos Baptist Senior Secondary School, Agege, came first, Ikeja Senior Secondary School, Ikeja, came second while Gbaja Senior boys High School, Surulere came third.
Trophies, medals, certificates and books were presented to the winners.
All the participating students also received certificates of participation and a book each.
