The Peoples Democratic Party’s Lagos West senatorial district candidate , Otunba Segun Adewale has been conferred with a chieftaincy title “Anya Ndigbo of Lagos State under the leadership of Eze Mkpume II Igwe Hycenth Ohazuruike on account of his hospitable disposition to people of Igbo descents.
The conferment ceremony which took place at the palace of Igwe Ohazuruike in Oshodi witnessed a huge turn out of Igbos in Lagos West.
Ohazuruike maintained that ‘ANYA NDIGBO’ which means “the eyes of the Igbos” is not just a title, it’s a revered honour bestowed on a relevant and supportive member of the society.
“The NDIGBOs’ agreed that only Otunba Segun Adewale is worthy of this title considering his antecedence and consistency towards the community.
They also indicated their resolve to vote enmasse for Otunba Segun Adewale in the February 25th, 2023 election.
Expressing his gratitude for the honour done on him, Otunba Segun Adewale stated that with the body has given him such a tremendous title, he reiterated the fact that he has always enjoyed a cordial and mutual relationship with the Ndigbo since childhood.
He acknowledged the fact that the Ndigbo has helped him previously and in return, he had helped them by sending some of them abroad, and also assisting them financially; especially the traders.
Also recognising the Ndigbo community’s power, the newly installed “ANYA NDIGBO” asserts that any political party that undermines the NdIgbo society does so at its peril.
Chief Wilson Ezemenari who was also present at the event stated that Otunba Segun Adewale merited the title long time ago because of his benevolence and Hospitality towards the igbo community in Lagos.
At the climax of the event, the Association of Ndigbos endorsed Otunba Segun Adewale; acknowledging his efforts and consistency over the years, while unanimously declaring their support and promising to cast their votes for him as the Senator to represent Lagos West.
