26 years after, FG mulls state pardon for Ken Saro Wiwa, others

President Muhammadu Buhari

Twenty-six years after Ogoniland was thrown into serious mourning over the hanging of Dr. Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists, President Muhammadu Buhari has mulled the readiness of the Federal Government to grant the environmental activists state pardon.

President Buhari stated this on Friday while playing host to some Ogoni leaders who had paid him a courtesy call.

He said the state pardon to Dr. Saro-Wiwa and others is the right step to bring closure to the agony and anger of the people over the circumstances leading to the death of all the activists.

Buhari said his administration will continue to work on the cleaning up of the Ogoniland in line with its election promises.
