Prof. Amidu Sanni, the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, has said 29 students would be awarded First Class degrees out of 307 graduating students of the 2018/19 academic year.
Sanni said this on Wednesday in Osogbo at a news conference to herald the institution’s 9th convocation ceremony, slated from Jan.8 to Jan. 14.
He said that a total of 307 students are graduating across various disciplines: 29 (First Class), 115 (2nd Class Upper), 147 (2nd Class Lower) 16 (Third Class) and 5 Postgraduate students at Masters’ Level.
He said the institution’s convocation programme would hold from Jan. 8 to Jan. 14, adding that by Tuesday, the grand finale of the programme would be the convocation for the Award of degrees and prizes.
It would also include the investiture of a new Chancellor, Alhaji (Dr Umaru Abdul Mutallab (CON) at the Amina Namadi Sambo Hall of the school.
Sanni also listed the various achievements of the school to include taking off of 38 new programmes approved by the school’s Senate last year and visitation of the NUC Resource Verification team.
He, however, said with effect from the second semester of 2019/2020, the new focus and philosophy of the school would change from the conventional practice of pure academics.
The Vice-Chancellor said the school would incorporate skills development, entrepreneurial exposure (with attachment to Industrial Development Centre) and local art and craft workshops to its programme.
He said the school was also embarking on series of building projects and that some international agencies had also pledged to assist the institution with its college of medicine and teaching hospital projects.
Sanni reiterated that as part of the expansion plan, the institution would open its South Campus where new colleges, Senate Building, Agricultural City, and Teaching Hospital and College of Medicine are scheduled to be established (NAN)
