Access Bank Marathon: Ethiopians maintain lead, emerge winner in male and female categories

Suntayahu Legese and Dinke Meseret, both from Ethiopia have emerged winners of the male and female events of the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Legese triumphed ahead of Kenyans Joshua Kupkorir and William Yegon, who placed second and third at the IAAF-sanctioned event.

Nigerian Sunday Manasa ended the race in sixth place to emerge the country’s best male performer.

In the female event, Ethiopians Alemnesh Herepa and Kebena Chala were second and third behind Meseret, to ensure a clean sweep for the East Africans.

Sixth-place Deborah Pam was Nigeria’s best performer in the female event.

Meanwhile the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has assured that the if elected in the March election, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu will continue the Access marathon event.

He said the Marathon which continues to get batter each year, will continue to improve the state’s gross domestic product, adding that the Marathon is part of the vision of the government to make Lagos the hub of sporting event in west Africa and in the Africa continent.

Ambode said Lagos will continue to open its doors to sports and sporting activities aimed at developing the capacity of the youths to reach for the stars, pledging that the state would continue to promote athletics among Lagosians
