The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it arrested 88 suspects and secured 43 convictions in 2021.
The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Waksha, disclosed this to journalists in Yola on Thursday, saying those arrested were mainly the notorious ‘Shilla Boys’ who specialize in robbing people of their mobile phones.
“We were also able to burst kidnap gangs who used the Fufore, Mayo Belwa mountains as their hideout to commit crimes,” the commandant added.
He explained that his command had in the last year charged 63 suspects to court and had secured 43 convictions within the period under review.
Adding that 20 cases are still pending in various courts in the state, the Commandant said, “There has been a good working synergy between other sister security organizations in the state to fight crime and criminalities.”
He said the command’s Agro Rangers department has been able to curtail the activities of cattle rustlers in the state and has also provided security to government grain reserves.
“The year 2021 saw us as a security outfit training some of our female officers on Safe Schools programme. We have 61 of them and we have posted them to various schools to help us keep our schools safe.
“Our Peace and Conflict Resolution (PCR) department has been working with the public and resolved a lot of civil cases like marital cases, land dispute and even breach of trust.
“We hope to have more female officers on our safe school program of the Commandant General of NSCDC,” the Adamawa NSCDC Commandant told journalists.
