The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to adapt pragmatic approaches to solving Nigeria’s social, economic and political challenges.
The union made the call in a communique issued at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday in Lagos.
The union said that such approach should include engaging all stakeholders on all issues of national interest.
“NEC in session is also calling on the Federal Government to look into the economic matters bedeviling the country, especially as its affects Nigerian workers.
“The rising inflation in the country is becoming alarming; hence, meeting the needs of a common man is becoming practically impossible.
“An urgent step needs to be taken to rescue the citizens, especially Nigerian workers,“ the union said.
It commended the Federal Government for securing the release of the abducted victims of the Abuja/Kaduna train incidence that occurred in March 2022.
The union, however, said that the 95 per cent salary increase and standard condition of service for railway workers had not been implemented till date.
“The NEC in session also frowns at the intention of the government to privatise Railway Corporation,“ it said.
The union restated its commitment to working with the three tiers of government and also the managements of member agencies and organisations.
“Consequently, the association shall uphold the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Trade Unions Act, and the Nigeria labour law to ensure all inclusive, good corporate governance that will engender mutual growth in organisations,” it said.
