The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to fly on Friday and crumbled to Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifying match played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The visitors were more determined, especially in the first half. They would have even taken the lead in the third minute, but goalkeeper Uzoho saved the shot.
Eagles had their own chances to open the scoring when Iwobi located Victor Osimhen with a good pass, but the Napoli striker was unable to finish up.
The visitors then took the lead in the 29th minute through Mama Balde who benefited from a defensive error from the Nigerian defenders.
Eagles tried all they could to restore parity in the first half, but the visitors took their lead into the dressing room leaving all Abuja fans in the stands angry.
In the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Super Eagles had many chances that would have helped them come back into the game, but Osimhen and Chukwueze have themselves to blame for missing them.
Prior to the match, Jose Peseiro, who is the coach of the Super Eagles, refused to open up on the status of his salary from the Nigerian Football Federation since he was appointed almost a year ago.
There have been reports that the Portuguese coach has not been paid his $70,000-per-month salary by the football body over the last 10 months.
