Africa’s first Professor of Neuro-Physiotherapy Professor Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat is dead.
Hamzat, aged 53, died in the early hours of Wednesday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
An official statement by the department of Neurological Physiotherapy, Professor Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat confirmed the death.
Professor Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat during his lifetime was the first African Neuro-Physiotherapy Professor. He hails from Ibadan.
The statement signed by Olayinka Omigbodun, Professor of Psychiatry and Provost College of Medicine, University of Ibadan reads:
Professor of Neurological Physiotherapy, Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat is dead 15 June 1970 – 11 January 2023
“With Deep Sorrow but Total Submission to God, I announce the passing of Professor Tal-hatu Kolapo HAMZAT, of the Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI). He passed away in the early hours of today 11 January 2023.
I received information early this morning from both the Deputy Provost, Professor A.F Adeniyi and the Acting Head of Physiotherapy, Dr. Adesola C. Odole.
We will provide more information to the CoMUI Community as events unfold. Let us pray for comfort for his wife, children and loved ones and seek God for mercy at this time of much sorrow.”
