Three agencies have been created in Borno State to coordinate and regulate humanitarian activities in the North East state.
Signing into law the executive bills which gave life to the agencies, Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum said this will enhance transparency in public procurement and reform land administration in the state.
The Governor, the who had sent the bills to the Assembly for passage into law, said with the signing there will be proper management of Humanitarian activities in the State.
The latest of the laws which established Borno State Agency for the Coordination of Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response was signed by the Governor last week.
This agency is to properly coordinate all humanitarian interventions by foreign and local actors and to enforce Borno’s lead in determining priorities of its people. The agency will also coordinate and keep track of development plan for the state.
The Governor had earlier signed into law a 2019 bill for the establishment of Borno State Public Procurement Agency, an agency saddled with the task of enforcement of best practices in government expenditures.
Another 2019 law signed by Zulum was for the establishment of Borno Geographical Information Service which is expected to reform land administration in the state.
The governor had aside signing the bills creating these three agencies into law, signed the 2019 law establishing Borno Contributory Health Scheme, which is to enforce workers and their employers (state and local government) make mandatory contributions on monthly basis that will enable the workers and their families access largely free healthcare services at designated hospitals.
The creation of Borno Contributory Health Scheme, will key workers in the State into a national programme that aims towards a universal health coverage for all Nigerians.
