Airtel Nigeria CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, Named CEO of the Year for Outstanding CSR Initiative

The organisers of the prestigious SERA awards have honoured Airtel Nigeria’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Segun Ogunsanya with the CEO of the Year award, for championing Airtel’s sustainability agenda under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, ‘Airtel Touching Lives’.

The SERAS awards platform recognises outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability efforts by the private sector, governments/public sector and non-governmental organizations, with the aim to lead the drive towards actualization of the sustainable development goals in Africa.

Segun Ogunsanya was presented the award for coordinating Airtel’s CSR and sustainability department effectively and executing credible strategies to attain some of the United Nation’s SDGs in Nigeria, including Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Good Health and Well-being, among others.

Presenting the award to the Airtel CEO, Chief Responsibility Officer, TruCSR, Ken Egbas, stated: “This award category was introduced in 2018 on the recommendation of the jury panel to recognise a head of organisation, who not only champions the CSR and sustainability of his company, but also passionately leads from the front.”

“As you receive this award, let it remind you on a daily basis of not what has already been achieved by Airtel, but the much more work that requires to be done, of which as head of Airtel operations in Nigeria, you have laid a solid foundation and high standards for others who may aspire for this same honor in the future”, he added.

While receiving the award, Mr. Ogunsanya expressed his gratitude to the organisers for recognising the company’s unwavering efforts to touching the lives of millions across Nigeria by rendering a helping hand to underprivileged families, individuals and people in hard-to-reach communities.

The SERAS is an annual project, which aims to promote, as well as raise awareness about the roles organizations play with emphasis on their responsibility towards   stakeholders and the social development of Africa.

This edition themed Driving Sustainability Through Inclusive Growth: Strategic Partnership as a Key to Unlocking Opportunities focused on organisations whom through their  CSR and sustainability activities have made renowned impact addressing  the SDG’s.
