Alleged Fraud: Court Strikes out Criminal Charges Against Imo Deputy Speaker

Court

A criminal prosecution brought against the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, for his alleged involvement in a N75 million scam, was dismissed by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Thursday.

On the request of the Inspector General of Police, Justice Charles Agbaza dismissed the charges in a decision (IGP).

The IGP, who filed the charges, submitted a move on notice to the court on Thursday, seeking that the accusations be dropped.

The police chief requested the court to dismiss the allegations in the interest of justice in a petition submitted by his attorney, Mr Umoh Inah.

Chief Chris Uche (SAN), who was standing in for the Deputy Speaker, did not oppose the proposal.

Agbaza consequently ruled that the charges be immediately terminated.
