Amaechi, Lai Mohammed inspect Lagos-Ibadan rail project

SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, Aug 15, 2020 For the Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed it is back to work after the movement restriction ordered in March, this year, forced a stoppage of construction on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge project.

The tracks for the 156km modern rail project have been completed at the Ibadan end, while it has reached Tejuosho, in Minland Lagos.

Before departing for Ibadan in one of the coaches delivered which would run the route, the ministers had inspected ongoing work at the Ebute Metta station buildings and yards under construction.

The team also inspected the new Apapa dockyard station and bulk terminal at the Apapa port in Lagos.

The government is linking the Apapa and TinCan ports with the rail project in order to solve the challenge of gridlock caused by the parking of articulated vehicles on the roads and bridges in Apapa.

The Lagos-Ibadan rail project is the first double-track standard gauge modern railway in West Africa.

The project, known a the segment II of the Lagos-Kano Railway Modernisation Project is being constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) an affiliate of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC).
