Better Ogun Indigenes (BOI), a socio-political group based in Ogun State, has accused the State government of leaving a debt of N103 billion made up of workers’ entitlements, deductions, leave bonuses, pensions and a number of uncompleted projects for the state.

The group also carpeted all contestants in the forthcoming election saying none is worth voting for as they are either corrupt or bankrupt.

To be taken serious, the group canvassed that all contestants for the top position in the state, should publicly declare their assets.

BOI Chairman Mr Akinbusayo Adedotun, made these demands in a statement issued in Abeokuta, on Thursday.

He said it is sad that most of the contenders for the governorship seat in the state had been alleged for one crime or the other, and wondered why those with skeletons in their cupboards were not outrightly disqualified by the nation’s electoral umpire.

Adedotun admonished the electorate in the state to demand during the debate being organised for them next week that all contestants should present their banks’ statement of account, so as to be able to track their misdeeds and the level of their insolvency or fraud they have perpetrated.

“Let them come out from with their banks account statement, and clearance from DSS in order to convince the electorate that they were not bankrupt, because as at today there are some speculations that most of them have assessed loans worth billions of Naira, that had remained unpaid yet, they wanted to contest for the number one citizens of the state”, Adedotun said

He said most of those vying for the governorship seat in the state have been accused of alleged election malpractices. He added that those the state needs badly right now are those who have the interest of state at heart and not those who would compound the state debt profile and add to the burden of the workers.

“Some of them cannot govern their homes, yet they are coming up to govern the state, some have pending cases of fraud, drugs abuse and many more. So, why vote for such persons, Ogun indigenes need to wake up from their slumber and be very conscious of who they would vote for at the coming election because they are going to live with the consequences of their decisions for the next four years,” Adedotun opined.

He added that one or two out of the contestants were redeployed from Ministries, while serving with the present government, and these are the persons that are now vying for the position of authority, he advised the residents to scrutinise all the contestants well before voting them, and grill them as well during the general debate organised by the State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ).
