Amuwo-Odofin SCIAN seeks government support on power plant – Matepo

SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, Sept 10, 2020 The Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN) Amuwo Odofin Lagos,has appealed to the government to come to her rescue with the support of provisions of Power Plant to people with disabilities in the area of Spinal Cord injuries.

The Chairman of the SCIAN, Lagos branch, Mr. Abdulwahab Matepo made this request during the 2020 World Spinal Cord Injuries Day Celebration held by the weekend at Amuwo Odofin Local Government area, that it is unbearable on their side and killing with their conditions on the estimated bills of million naira that the Electricity company issued to them all the time.

The Chairman Lagos branch said SCIAN would not pray for any loss/demise of their member again that it was not funny when they lost one of their members in the hospital due to the explosion that occurred in their territory recently from the power supplied when deceased was wheeled out from his apartment to charge his phone. He urged government therefore to provide for them befitting Power Plant.

The Chairman however called for the support of the relevant Authorities in his lecture which gave the financial cost of Spinal Cord Injuries anywhere in both home and abroad, to address the lapses in the healthcare system of those who are going through the challenges of spinal cord injuries because it is not every SCI disabled person is rich towards its cost. He said in the United State of America you must spend 41,000 dollars yearly to maintain persons faced with spinal cord injuries and there are no statistics about the cost of managing a SCI in Nigeria. He said.

The National Chairman of SCIAN, Mr. Obioha Ononogbu stated in his goodwill message that the Lagos state office for disabity affairs(LASODA) had been so supportive to the SCIAN in large kindness and actually did not lack any palliative package during the time of COVID 19 pandemic lockdown.

He reminded members to observe a minute silence for the lost souls among them and described their roles that they had played selflessly and significantly as roles that the late chief Anthony Adeyemi Bamgbose had played at the area of disabled Sports,that Bamgbose in his memories had once ran to the P.A.to the Minister of Transpirtation to help on the provision of Vehicle to the SCI. He urged other members to always assert their identity anywhere as SCI to differentiate them from other disabled persons that it is so important to clear the facts that not everyone or organisation ubderstand that every person on wheel chairs use the same bud that other used.

He commended the former administration in Lagos state for rescue the sci disabled with befitting transportation each time they have events,same applause to Governor Sanwo-olu Babajide for the continuity.

Others facilitators in attendance, were Rolac, the programme Sponsor, as Physiotherapist, Ayopo Onafuwu, Ariyo Samuel and represented Dr. Harvinder Singh Chhabra the President for ISCOS.
