The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said his administration, in the past eight years, recorded tremendous achievements in various sectors of the state’s economy.

Citing notable progress made by his regime in healthcare, education, agriculture and economic empowerment, he reiterated the need for continuity for the benefit of citizens.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Government House, Benin City, the governor detailed the strides made across key sectors that improved the lives of Edo citizens and positioned the state for long-term sustainable development.

Governor Obaseki underscored the government’s success in healthcare, highlighting investments in expanding access to quality medical services.

“Our healthcare system has undergone a significant transformation, with the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, the building of new hospitals, and the introduction of health insurance schemes to ensure affordable care for Edo indigenes and residents. We are safeguarding the future of our citizens,” the governor said.

In education, Obaseki praised the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation programme, noting how it reshaped learning in public schools

“Through EdoBEST, we have set a solid foundation for future generations by improving the quality of teaching and creating an inclusive education system. No child in Edo will be left behind,” he affirmed.

The governor also pointed to his administration’s remarkable gains in agriculture, where initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and empowering farmers thrived.

According to him, the state has become a hub for agriculture with the adoption of modern farming techniques and farmer-friendly policies. “We are now a key contributor to the national food basket, and our rural communities are more prosperous because of this agricultural revolution,” he added.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for the youth, women and small business owners, pointing out, “We have focused on equipping our people with the skills and resources needed to participate in a modern economy. Our entrepreneurship programmes have enabled thousands to become self-reliant, thus contributing to the reduction of unemployment.”

He stressed the importance of continuity in governance for long-term development.

“It is crucial that the incoming administration builds on the solid foundation we have laid. Sustainability is key to maintaining the progress achieved. By continuing these reforms and initiatives, Edo can only grow stronger. The people of Edo deserve consistent, responsible governance that secures their welfare and delivers lasting benefits,” Obaseki advised.

He reaffirmed his commitment to a smooth transition and urged all stakeholders to remain focused on the collective good of the state.

“We have demonstrated that with the right policies and dedication, progress is achievable. I encourage the next leadership to remain committed to the vision of a prosperous, inclusive Edo State. Together, we can continue to uplift our people and secure a brighter future for all.”
