The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday vowed to challenge the result of the presidential election which took place on February 25, 2023 in court.
Atiku said the 2023 election presented the people of Nigeria “the greatest opportunity for a reset as we had everything going for itz the law, Electoral Act 2022 and the BVAS.”
The party described the election which produced the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the keenly contested election as a sham. It is a grossly flawed process and INEC hugely disappointed Nigerians.
Atiku who was flanked by top echelon of the party among them the Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, and governor’s of Cross Rivers, Adamawa and top chieftains said he will head for the courts to challenge the outcome which he said was rigged in favour of the ruling party.
Atiku who described the election as the most corrupt and shambolic election in Nigerian history said INEC conducted itself in the most despicable manner, denying Nigerians the very same thing it promised which is electronic transmission of result from the polling unit, upon which had elicited the excitement of Nigerians.
He said: “We in the PDP have decided that we will contest this election. We are determined to ensure that the rape of our democracy will not stand. We would fight this in the courts hoping that the court will live to their billing as the last hope of the common man.
Asked what he will do if he could not get justice at the courts, Atiku said, “what will I do, I will appeal to God, the final arbiter who I know will not fail. But as a democrat I will seek all legal means of redress possible to upturn this sham and ensure that the electoral victory was restored to the PDP.
Atiku admitted that the Labour Party had a serious dent on the fortunes of the PDP, but added that the LP could not make it to the coveted seat. He said Peter Obi is welcomed to form an alliance with the PDP to wrest power from the APC and ensure that the people’s rights are restored and their votes made to count.
Atiku said: “This is not personal. This has nothing to do with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. This is about the ordinary Nigerian. This is about the right of Nigerians, and the future generations.”
The PDP is the second party to challenge the outcome of the election as the LP is also laying claim to being the winner of the election.
He said the election would go down in history as the most controversial election ever conducted in Nigeria.
He said his believe in Nigeria and democratic tenets remained unshaken as he has sworn the rest of his life would be in service of the country and the defence of the downtrodden and the masses of the people.
He urged PDP faithful to remain peaceful in the face of provocation.
