Ten female and four male staff members of the Zaria local government area of Kaduna State were kidnapped yesterday at Giwa local government area of the state.

The abductees were said to be on a condolence visit to one of their staff and a director, who lost his father.

Confirming the incident, the assistant information officer of the council, Mallam Musa, said the abductees that included two directors and other senior officers of the local council were deceived by an informer.

He explained that “When they arrived at Giwa which is the headquarters of Giwa local government, they were informed that the condolence sitting was being held at a nearby village, Idasu.

“The abductees who do not know the terrain and location of the village, decided to contract a motorcyclist to lead them to the village, while they followed him in an official vehicle.

“The motorcyclist subsequently trapped and led them to the kidnappers’ den,” he said.

Newsmen, however, gathered that the driver of the official vehicle was instantly released on the instruction to come back and report the incident to the relatives of the captives.

This is due to the ban of communication network services in the area.

It was further discovered that the driver was also detailed to collect an undisclosed ransom and subsequently take back to them alone.

Efforts to get police confirmation were not successful as the police public relations officer, Mohammed Jalige, could not be reached on his phone.
