Bandits in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, on Tuesday, unleashed mayhem on the Batsari local government area in Katsina, killing no fewer than 11 persons while razing scores of houses and vehicles.

A reliable source from the community told DAILY POST that the bandits stormed the community late evening on Tuesday and threw the locals into a state of pandemonium which lasted till dawn.

The source said the hoodlums were reported to have attacked not fewer than 5 communities under Batsari local government during the operation.

DAILY POST also gathered that among the victims killed in the attack was one Nura Hassan Wagine.

Due to the security challenges in the state, particularly relating to the lack of telecommunication networks in the area, sources cannot be reached to ascertain the exact level of damages inflicted on the communities.

However, an official statement from the Police Spokesman in the State, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.

SP. Gambo’s statement read thus: “Yesterday, 9 November 2021, at about 1915hrs, bandits in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Katoge and Yanturaku quarters of Batsari LGA, killed eleven (11) and injured thirteen (13) persons.

”The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, has deployed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of operations, with additional units of PMF personnel to the area to beef up security and restore confidence on the affected communities.”
