Bedridden for 23 Years, Daniel Emori Appeals for Help With Feeding, Medication

Imagine having a health challenge that could confine you to just one spot just for few seconds. For Daniel Emori, this has gone beyond imagination.

It is his lived experience. For 23 years, this 44-year-old man from Adadama Community in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, has been confined to the bed. And completely exhausted, he needs you to help him to continue to live.

Emori has been bedridden for about 23 years after sustaining a spinal cord injury in a road accident while working as a delivery van driver in Onitsha, Anambra State in 2003.

Daniel Emori had no inkling that his life’s trajectory would be permanently altered on that fateful morning of October 10, 2003. Then, 22, he had resumed work and was eagerly looking forward to another fruitful day when his delivery van ran into an uncontrolled cattle while going to deliver goods to customers at Fegge Market, near the River Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State. The accident left him to an accident that left him paralysed.

Emori explained that before the incident, he had completed his secondary education and because of his poor background, had taken to driving to garner work experience.

Every hope he had ever nursed went up in smoke with that dastardly encounter. The accident changed his life, and left him unable to move and fend again for himself. He was sentenced to a life of dependence on others for his survival.

The Cross River indigene, who marked his 44th birthday on May 3, said efforts to raise funds for medical treatment, including possible surgery in India, over the years had failed.

He said his health condition had worsened over the years due to inadequate medical care, adding that he now suffers from stiff joints, infections and severe bedsores.

Emori said he is no longer focused on travelling abroad for treatment, but is appealing for support to meet immediate needs, especially feeding, minor medications and basic care.

“I am appealing to individuals, philanthropists, groups, organisations, government and the general public to assist me with feeding and medication,” he said.

He urged well-meaning Nigerians to support him as he continues to battle the effects of the injury. He has lost all hopes of ever being able to use his legs. What he wanted now is just to feed, and to nurse himself till he would go back to his maker.

appealed to Nigerians, government agencies, philanthropists and organisations for financial assistance to meet his daily feeding and medical needs.
