Responding to the early morning bombings of Ukraine by the Russian Army, the United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction.
Johnson added that he was appalled by the horrific events in Ukraine and has spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to discuss the next steps.
“President Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack on Ukraine,” Johnson said in a tweet.
Russian forces fired missiles at several cities in Ukraine and landed troops on its south coast on Thursday, signaling the beginning of the long-expected invasion of a neighbouring state.
Officials and media said the attacks were launched after President Vladimir Putin authorized what he called a special military operation in the east.
