Borno State University on Thursday has its
inaugural matriculation, signally the commencement of academic activity of the
ivory tower.
The institution which was established by a law passed by Borno State House of
Assembly on September 10, 2012 and granted an approval in 2016 by the National
Universities Commission (NUC), matriculated 647 students.
Speaking at the matriculation, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof.
Umar Kyari Sandabe said 801 students were given admission but 647 students
registered and subsequently matriculated.
He noted that the school has four faculties, including agriculture; arts and
education; social and management sciences; and sciences, and running 32
programmes.
He revealed that the university is kicking off with 12 sabbatical and 66
visiting lecturers comprising nine professors and 66 senior lecturers from
various universities, mostly from University of Maiduguri.
He said the full recruitments of the academic staff would be done after the
merger processes and formalities with the Kashim Ibrahim College of Education
are completed.
Sandabe said: “Having admitted and matriculated these set of students today,
their academic journey has just started and the road to acquire desired and
beneficial knowledge is always bumpy, rough and dark, therefore patience,
commitment, discipline and hard work are necessary ingredients to cross it
successfully.”
He thanked the University of Maiduguri and the Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana
Umara Zulum for the success recorded by the institution so far.
Borno Governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Umara Zulum
promised to continue to support the school.
