Dr Cyprian Igong of the National Hospital, Abuja became the first Nigerian to be administered the Oxford AstraZeneca Vaccine by the Nigerian government.
The vaccine was administered to Igong by the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) Dr Faisal Shuaib.
Flagging off the historic ceremony which took place at the National Hospital, Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of th Federation Mr Boss Mustapha urged Nigerians to be weary of what he called “conspiracy theories” which might be inimical to the determination of the government to ensure that all Nigerians are vaccinated against the pandemic.
He praised all multilateral organisations particularly the World Health Organisation for its commitment to ensuring that the world get rid of the pandemic.
He urged all state governments and Nigerians to partner with the administration in ensuring that the vaccine got to the people.
Minister of Health Dr Ehanire on his part praised the health workers for their commitment to ensuring that “we defeat the pandemic”.
Assuring Nigerians of the safety of the vaccines Dr Shuaib said the National Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has scanned the vaccines and approved it for all Nigerians.
He said the NPHDA has distributed the vaccine across the country and is expected to inoculate all the 200 million people in the country in batches.
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila also called on Nigerians to support the government in ensuring that we all win the war against the virus.
He however said Nigerians should continue to obey all COVID-19 protocols. “We must continue to obey all protocols of hand washing, social distancing and wearing of nose masks.
