The sun sets tragically for 15 students of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Ojodu, in the Ojodu LCDA area of Lagos State, as a trailer killed at least 15 students, leaving several others seriously injured.
The students were said to have just closed for the day and were at the bus stop waiting for commercial buses back to their various homes.
An eye witness confirmed to Sunrise News that the trailer driver who was on speed was trying to evade arrest by a combined team of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA),
In the course of the confusion, the driver was said to have failed brake and ran into the students at the road side park, killing no fewer than 15, while some others were wounded.
The trailer driver SUNRISE NEWS further gathered was eventually arrested at Excellence Hotel, about five miles away from the scene of the accident.
The incident inflamed the students who took to the street, attacking all trucks and vehicles in sight in protest of the killing of their colleagues.
It was further gathered that Policemen from the Ojodu Police Division had a difficult time restoring peace in the area as they had to fire canisters of tear gas into the air to contain the riots.
Many parents were seen thronging the school in search of their children.
It was gathered that the state government had evacuated the remains of the victims to state mortuaries, while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
