SUNRISE NEWS – A high Court sitting in Maitama, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has ordered the State Security Services otherwise known as the Department of Security Services (DSS), to charge the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, to court within seven days or release from detention.

Justice Hamza Muazu gave the order in a ruling on a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Emefiele challenging his continued detention by the DSS, who has incacerated him since May 30, 2023.

In an originating motion on notice, Emefiele had prayed the court to enforce his right to liberty and freedom of movement as there was no basis for his continued detention.

However the Attorney General of the Federation and the DSS had insisted that the detention of the suspended CBN Governor was lawful.

In its ruling, Counsel for the plaintiff and Senior Advocate of Nigeria Chief Daudu urged the Federal Government to obey the decision of the court in the interest of justice.

Chief Daudu, said his client expected to be releasaed today on administrative bail.
