Bring in soldiers of fortune to counter ISWAP, says Zulum

The Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider employing soldiers of fortune (popularly called mercenaries) to counter the ease with which the Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) ravaging the North Eastern parts of Nigeria.

Zulum who spoke on Thursday while briefing newsmen at the State House, Abuja, said ISWAP is a more professional terrorist groups and are more sophisticated and well read unlike the Boko Haram.

Zulum who warned that the greater danger is that ISWAP is targeting not just the NorthEast but the entire Nigeria said ISWAP is more powerful than Boko Haram and must be tackled headlong right now that it is still in its formative stage.

He said the President should consider hiring mercenaries to bring down this growing hubris in the NorthEast and save the entire country the nightmare if allowed to fester.

Zulum explained that he has briefed the President of the need to engage a new gear in the fight against terrorist groups in the NorthEast, adding that everything humanly possible must be done to ensure and preserve the territorial integrity of the country.

Sunrise News recalled that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan had employed the mercenaries to wage the war against Boko Haram/ISWAP onslaught in the NorthEast and the successes of their efforts guaranteed the observance of the 2015 general election in the troubled Maiduguri and other parts of the NorthEast.
