The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has accused his colleague from Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi of attempting a coup against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Bamidele made the claims while reacting to Ningi’s allegation of the Senate padding the 2024 Appropriation bill.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Bamidele and a few senators vowed never to allow Akpabio spend one year as the Senate President.
He said: “What Ningi wanted to do was tantamount to a civilian coup which has failed.
“The attempt to take the leadership of this Senate beyond June 13 must stop. Over 60 senators voted for Akpabio, and about 40 voted against him.
“But after that, Akpabio stood and said let’s work together as senators. This is a defining moment for us to have a stable Senate.
“It’s not about North or South but about the image of the Senate.
“Mr Senate President, the few people who will not give you more than one year are doing everything to remove you before June.”
