Buhari commiserates with victims of Maiduguri GSM market disaster

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday commiserated with the victims of fire incident at the Maiduguri GSM Market.

Present Buhari said he feels their pains and assurance them of the support of the federal government towards ameliorating their suffering and losses.

The President’s message was conveyed to the marketers through the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar-Farouq.

The Minister, who was in Maiduguri for a-three day workshop on improving Civil-Security Cooperation, said during her assessment visit to the market, that:
“We are here on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari who directed that we should come and condole with you over the unfortunate fire incident that destroyed properties worth millions.

“We are pained at the level of losses incurred by the traders as a result of the incident. We are here with Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of the North East Development Commision(NEDC), Governor Babagana Zulum, to assess the situation and fashion out ways that we can support you.

The Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara who later spoke, urged them to support government plans to relocate them to New GSM market to avoid future incident of inferno and decongest the market.

He asked them to come faward with selected leaders of their union to discussed ways that the state government can be of support.
