The curtain may have dropped on the regime of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu. There are speculations that Magu might have been fired by President Buhari.
Magu is facing probe and fraud allegation.
Magu was whisked away on Monday to face a presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami probing the various allegations leveled against him.
The panel grilled Magu for hours on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja before he was taken into police custody.
Sources in the presidency, quoted by BBC Hausa Service and The Punch, hinted of Magu’s suspension by the president.
According to the source, it is commonsensical that a man under probe is eased out to allow for independent investigation. “You don’t allow the person being investigated to keep the keys of the office for which he is being investigated.
“This is because if he keeps the keys, there can be tampering with documents or evidence,” the source who preferred anonymity said.
The source added that it was not logical and that it was even undemocratic to allow such to happen.
However, the presidency is yet to issue an official statement on Magu’s fate as at Tuesday evening.
