Nigeria’s leader President Muhammadu Buhari will have a nationwide broadcast by 8pm today, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina said.
In a three-paragraph statement signed by Adesina, the President’s spokesman urged all television, radio and other electronic media stations to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast.
Presidency has kept Nigerians guessing whether there would be another extension, and more specifically whether he would announce a nationwide lockdown as many health pundits are clamouring.
It was also the first time since he announced the lockdown on March 30, that the President would address the nation by 8pm.
The current 14-days extension, which started on April 13, would lapse 11.59pm today.
Indications that the President may also relax the lockdown in the two states of Lagos, Ogun and Abuja also thickened with the announcement by the National Assembly to resume sitting on Tuesday.
Though Clerks of both the House of Representatives and the Senate said the chambers would only be opened to the lawmakers alone, urging their aides to stay back at home, adding that they would be contacted when needed.
