Building collapse claims owner in Ikorodu

A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Tuesday evening, killing its owner, identified as Pastor Daniel Obasi, in Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The building is located at 77 Tapa Road, Oke-Oja at Isawo community, in Ikorodu.

The Acting Zonal Coordinator, Southwest Zonal Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, said the cleric was trapped in the building.

The NEMA chief said the collapsed building was an attachment to the main building.

He said the remains had been recovered by the police and deposited at the General Hospital, Ikorodu mortuary.

Quoting a neighbour of the deceased, the coordinator said that construction work was stopped as a result of the public holidays to enable the workers observe the Eid festivities.

Farinloye said the collapse was suspected to be as a result of inadequate time to allow land to compact properly before commencement of construction and using of poor building materials.
