Prominent Nigerian businessman, Mr. Olanrewaju C. Adenuga, has called on the relevant authorities to enforce justice following what he described as a blatant disregard for a mediated resolution in a long-standing land dispute at Igando Orudu, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos involving Alhaji Garba Owoeye and Mr. Peter Onyia.

The dispute, which had previously escalated to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja, was subject to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.

The resolution meeting, held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Lagoon Restaurant Waterfront in Victoria Island, Lagos, was presided over by Detective Dada Felix and accompanied by Detective Dayo Olatunji.

According to the terms agreed upon at the meeting:

  1. Alhaji Garba Owoeye voluntarily committed to allocate five (5) acres of land to Mr. Olanrewaju Adenuga as full and final settlement of the dispute.
  2. Mr. Peter Onyia was exonerated from all liabilities in connection with the matter and cleared of any further obligations to both parties.

Despite the resolution being formally documented and agreed upon by all present at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Adenuga alleges that Alhaji Owoeye has refused to honour the agreement.

This defiance, he says, not only undermines the ADR process facilitated by law enforcement but also constitutes a continued act of land grabbing against him.

“It is disheartening that after such a formal and fair settlement process, one of the parties has chosen to act in bad faith,” Mr. Adenuga said.
“I am calling on the police authorities and relevant legal institutions to uphold justice and ensure that the resolution is enforced.”

The businessman stressed that failure to act would send a discouraging message to citizens seeking peaceful dispute resolution through official channels.

As of press time, Mr. Adenuga is urging the Nigeria Police Force and legal authorities to take immediate steps to compel compliance with the terms of the settlement.

Unfortunately, attempts to reach Alhaji Garba Owoeye for comment have been unsuccessful.

The FCID Abuja has yet to release an official statement regarding the reported breach of agreement.
