Cashier docked for N10m theft in Lagos

A cashier with a private firm in Lagos, Chinonye Nwaochei, 37, who allegedly converted N10 million worth of goods to personal gain, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, a cashier who works in a private firm, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read before her.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Olatunde, said that the defendant committed the offences between 2020 and 2022 at Moshood Abiola Way, Iganmu, Lagos.

He said the defendant diverted the amount, being money paid by various customers for various goods produced by her company – Ulysses Nigeria Limited, to her own personal use.

“The defendant converted the money paid for goods such as air fresheners, liquid bleach, camphor and blue pains paid by various customers and refused to remit the funds,” he said.

He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.M. Kayode-Alamu, granted bail to the defendant for N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Magistrate Kayode-Alamu ordered that the sureties must produce proof of tax payment for the last three years to the state government.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 19 for mention. (NAN)
