Champions League: I overthink, create stupid tactics – Guardiola

Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has sarcastically hit out at critics who claim he overthinks in the Champions League, by claiming he will field 12 players against Atletico Madrid.

City lost last season’s final against Chelsea, for which Guardiola started the match without the club’s preferred holding midfielders.

The Catalan also chose to play three at the back in a quarter-final defeat by Lyon in 2020.

Addressing the media on Monday, Guardiola said: “In the Champions League, always I overthink. I overthink a lot. Absolutely.

“That’s why I’ve had good results. I love to overthink and create stupid tactics.

“Tonight I take inspiration and there will be incredible tactics tomorrow. We’ll play with 12.”
