President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA), Prince Olusegun Ochuko Obayendo, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for unbundling the transportation sector.

Describing the move as strategic, Obayendo said the unbundling will eliminate ambiguity, pave the way for clear and resolute directives for the newly appointed ministers and ensure the delivery of impactful policies that would move the country forward.

Speaking on Channels TV’s “Lunchtime Politics,” monitored yesterday, Obayendo highlighted the significance of the transformation. He emphasized the crucial role of Hon. Sai’du Alkali, Minister of Transportation, who oversees the road, rail, and pipeline modes of transportation adding that there are pressing needs for rail and roads as Nigerians battle with current state of roads and high cost of transportation as a result of removal of fuel subsidy.

Obayendo, revealed that CIoTA has been in productive discussions with the Ministry of Transportation, outlining a comprehensive reform agenda. He affirmed CIoTA’s commitment to collaborating closely with the ministry to drive positive change.

He said as an institute vested with authority through the Act of Parliament, CIoTA is steadfastly committed to professionalising every facet of the transportation landscape in Nigeria.

Obayendo expressed concern over the current state of the sector and advocated for comprehensive reforms, robust regulations, and a growing agitation for professionalisation of the transportation industry for greater efficiency.

He equally called on the Minister of Transportation to carefully examine the 2021 Executive Order on the administration and coordination of road transportation in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Obayendo urged the minister to diligently study the order’s contents and subsequently share them with the President, ensuring a better understanding of the Executive Order.

He looked forward to greater synergy and cohesion among the Ministries of Transportation, Aviation, Marine and Blue Economy, assuring the three ministries of CIoTA’s unwavering readiness to join forces with them for the betterment of Nigeria’s transportation domain.
