Facts have emerged as to why the 21-storey building that came crashing in the highbrow area of Ikoyi occurred and one of this was that the developer and owner of the building Segun Odubona, popularly known as Fourscore, was cutting corners.
A letter which went viral on the social media, written by Muritala Olawale, the Managing Director of Prowess Engineering Ltd, the structural engineers supervising the project had willingly disengaged from the project 20 months ago.
The letter dated February 20, 2020 accused Fourscore Heights, owners of the structure of some sharp practices regarding the project a development which according to Olawale calls to question the integrity of the project.
Prowess in the letter by Olawale said it could only vouch for the first four floors of the structure as well as the two other structures within the same premises which it supervises, adding that it should not be held accountable for any construction error as the owners of the structure failed to make the appropriate design available to its engineers.
According to the letter, Prowess had informed Fourscore Heights that they are dropping the contract because “they no longer shared the same vision” on how the project is being developed.
Prowess claimed that while the first two projects were well supervised, te third building building was only guaranteed to be safe up to the fourth floor in terms of concrete strength.
Prowess went further to direct that its name be removed forthwith from the structure as it could not stick its neck out for the integrity of the structure.
