A popular singer and songwriter, Ahmed Asake, simply known as Asake, is mourning a fan, Rebecca Ikumeleo, who died after a stampede at his concert at the Brixton O2 Academy, London, United Kingdom, on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

In a statement posted on his social media pages, Asake sent his condolence to the family of the deceased, stating that he never imagined such a thing would happen.

He wrote, “I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who was in critical condition since Thursday, has sadly passed away.

“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them, and will continue to do so.

“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.”

Asake added that he was awaiting reports from the police and the management of the venue on what exactly caused the disruption and stampede. He also urged members of the public that had relevant information as to what happened to speak up to the right authorities.

He wrote, “My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the police to determine what exactly led to the disruption.

“If you have any relevant information relating to this, please reach out to the Metropolitan Police.”
