A Youth Crop member, Yusph Adenike Fisayo, host health outreach on free blood sugar test, free blood pressure check, eye screening, and endocrinologist counselling also giving free drugs and transitional lenses at Papa Ajao, Mushin local government on Saturday for healthy and prosperous living.
The event which was tagged “The family and diabetes have it checked” was held at Mushin primary health centre, Omodigbo, Palm Avenue, Lagos. Supported by Honorable Femi Nuga.
According to the convener, there is need for the government to do more in healthcare delivery, like most rural communities in the country lack access to quality health services.
“It’s my first time doing this and I have the intention of taking it to places”.
“I brought this event to Mushin because I live and grow up here and I feel my community should benefit first from it,” Nike said.
“The outreach is aimed to sensitise the people of the need to always know their status and get treatment to ensure healthy living and prosperous nation.
“It is also a health awareness to sensitise the people of Mushin on diabetes prevention and personal hygiene and to counsel them on the need to always go for test before treatment.
“She advised people to go to the hospital frequently and do a proper checkup and don’t do self-medication.”
Speaking at the event, Honorable Femi Nuga, Counsellor for Ward B Papa Ajao Mushin local Government also the majority leader for Mushin local government.
” it’s a nice event put together, as the sole supporter it’s a good event for us to check our health from blood pressure, sugar test, eye screening and also we are giving out free lens, free drugs and counselling section from the Doctors”. He said.
He also said it’s important to do a proper checkup and blood pressure check.
“People just slump and die cause of their ignorant and lack for proper medical checkup”.
A medical doctor Dr Awala Temitope of St Nicolas Hospital, said diabetes is a chronic medical ailment just like hypertension, more people are been diagnosed with these ailments.
She added that “some of the things to consider are diet, lifestyle, and exercises”.
“ People are not really informed on these ailments, some people have high blood pressure and very high blood sugar without knowing.”
“It tells that a lot of people don’t take their health serious”.
She advised people to get checked and to follow up in a hospital which is very important also go on counselling
Shade Yusuph an entrepreneur said diabetics is what people don’t take seriously people are not much aware of it and lack basic knowledge about it.
“I think an event like this should be encouraged, at least today over a hundred people know their status already and how to prevent and manage it”.
“It’s not a death sentence it’s easy to manage and it’s a kind of ailment that comes with other types of ailment”
“it’s something that you need to know your diet, when to go for a checkup and how to exercise,” she said.
