Council Boss rallies prominent Surulere residents for Lere Day celebration

Stakeholders in Surulere area of Lagos State have been urged to team up with the Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Hon. Sulaimon Bamidele in his attempt to bring about a more virile community harnessing the visible potentials.

Prominent stakeholders in the Surulere polity like Hon. Agboola Dabiri the Mandate Secretary, Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public-Private Partnership, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Idris Aregbe and the Onikate of Ikate Oba Lateef Atanda Adams made the call at the Media Briefing to flag off the Lere Day 2024 celebrations which is the second edition held within the council headquarters in Surulere.

The dignitaries all echoed the fact that Surulere housed lots of Nigerians form different ethnic background and such a huge potential need be used positively to further develop Surulere.

Hon Dabiri opined that the chairman had written his name in gold by virtue of the Lere Day celebration, adding that it portends many great leaps for the area and particularly counselling those prominent individuals who once lived, worked or had any connection with Surulere to adopt a school or a project with the community for the betterment and more advancement of the people.

In his chat with newsmen the council chief Hon. Sulaimon Bamidele expressed optimism that the 2024 Surulere Day celebrations will give the residents opportunity to socialise at fullest and earn legitimate incomes.

He also said that the event will display the heritage and social life of Surulere that does not discriminate on the basis of culture, ethnicity, political and religious bias

He explained that the Lere Day 2024 will reunite Surulerians from far and near with friends and associates not leaving out those in the Diaspora under one roof.

The council boss was of the view that Lere Day will soon become a household name in the realm of Ojude Oba Day, Calabar Carnival, Durba celebrations in the North, the Nottinghill Carnival in London adding the intention was to sustain it and pass it unto the next generations.

Worthy of note is the unveiling of the Lere Day celebration fabric by Oba Lateef Atanda Adams and that of days’ logo by Hon Desmond Elliot.

The Chairman Planning Committee, Tayo Gbajabiamila had hinted ealier that Surulere leads amidst other local government area in many ways while reeling out list of great Nigerians who were born, or once lived or worked in Surulere, namely President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife Senator Oluremi, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Osun state Governor Jackson Adeleke and host of others.

She harped on the fact that Surulere has all it takes to make this celebration full of glamour and excitement.

Hon. Desmond Elliot who represents Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos House of Assembly said that it was a thing of joy that Surulere is home to all tribes in the country.

He challenged the youth and Students in the area to take full advantage of Lere Day to uncover their talents and showcase themselves to the world.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Idris Aregbe promised to do what will make Surulere remain in the news for good at all times.

Speaking on security plans during the event, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bode Thomas Police Station vowed to ensure adequate security during the events adding that the State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olawale has ordered his men to ensure crime is reduced to barest minimum in the metropolis.

Some of the activities lined up for in 5-Day event which holds from10th to 15th December includes; Symposium, Trade Fair, Talent Hunt, Odl School for the Elderly at Eric Moore, Fashion Fair, Fanty Carnival and Awards Nights where prominent Personalities from Surulere will be honoured.
