SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, Aug 16, 2020 History was made at the weekend as the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Chairman Apostle Oloruntoba Oke flagged off the construction of the Aina Ajobo road.
The 470mtrs long road which led to the council headquarters has been in a very bad state and successive administration had abandoned its repairs.
Oke said project should be completed and commissioned in the next three months.
He commended the good people of Aina Ajobo for their patience and understanding over the years. He said the construction is another promise kept, assuring them that by the time the project is completed, his administration would be delivering a total package of a tarred road with good drainages and culverts.
He said: “The 470 metres long street project is capital-intensive because the cost of culverts and drainages can fix about six streets, but the community deserves it. Even though it is our responsibility and agenda to provide infrastructural facilities, the fact that the community donated the land on which the temporary headquarter is built, spurs up the need for more benefits to them.”
He, therefore, promised to transform the temporary headquarter to full-fledged health care centre for the community, once the local government’s permanent site at Idiagbon is completed. He also mentioned the installation of Solar-Powered Light Project recently provided on the same Aina Ajobo Street.
He however appealed to the youths and leadership of the Ward to put proper arrangements in place, beside the LG’s, for total security of the equipment like the excavator, mixers and others to avoid tampering which may obstruct the road work.
The Leader of the Legislative Arm of Ifako-ijaiye and representative of the Ward A community, Hon. Abiodun Akinola, commended the initiatives of the Chairman. He appealed to the community to bear with council for the inconveniences during the construction and pleaded that they comply with the contractor.
A representative of the contractor, Smithcrown Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Oluseyi Ogunsiji reiterated that the project span is three months and that they would be working according to specifications
The CDC chairman, Pastor Samuel Opajobi said the road project will bring significant benefits to the people and improve their living standards.
