Nigerians have been urged to embrace peace and promote peaceful coexistence especially during and after the forthcoming general election.
The Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, stated this on Wednesday, during the special prayer for peace and tranquility organised by the Ifako Ijaiye council of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, held at the Council’s event centre.
He said the edition, which was the first since the coming of the new executive members of the council, has proved beyond doubt their commitment to peaceful coexistence of the people.
He said: “This is happening because NIREC is concerned with peace and progress of the local government adding that Ifako-Ijaiye is one local govetn.ent where peace us continued to be a way of life because of the mutual understanding of all religious leaders in the local government.”
NIREC’s co- Chairman in the council, Alhaji Abd’Taleeb Oriire Oyedeji said Christians and Muslims gathered to pray for a peaceful conduct of the forthcoming election because they knew all solutions to our problems in Lagos State and Nigeria is not beyond God.
His co chairman Bishop Michael Dare charged Nigerians to embrace peace and be humble in their relationship with others.
The Bishop, who was represented by Revd Festus Odeyemi said love is the prerequisite for peace, urging Christians and Muslims in the local government will continue to live together as one family of God Almighty.
The Local Government NIREC founders Alhaji Yisa Lasisi, leader f the Muslim community and Revd J.S.A Oladele said since they started the NIREC journey in 2011, Muslim and Christian community in the local government have been an epitome of peace.
The Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture Mr Femi Afikuyomi said the local government have continued to wax strong because of the understanding that is existing between Christians and Muslims in the council.
