Council chief to residents: Take ownership of public infrastructure

The people of Ifako-Ijaiye Council Area of Lagos State have been urged to take ownership of any infrastructure put in their communities and take responsibility for protecting them in order to maximize their usefulness.

The Chairman, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, stated this on Friday, during  the official commissioning of 15MVA  Obawole Injection Sub- station put in place by Ikeja  Electric in response to the age-long  residents’ outcry over poor and epileptic power supply  in  the  area.

Oke, who was excited to see the facility commissioned with the MD/CEO Ikeja Electric, Engr.  Jide Ikumapayi, in attendance, noted that the project was initiated during his first term in office when his administration donated the parcel of land for the injection substation.

He used the occasion to praise the Obawole United Forum under the able leadership of  Pastor Olu Opajobi, for their resilience and steadfastness at ensuring the dream come to reality. 

In his remarks, the MD/CEO Ikeja Electric, Engr. Jide Ikumapayi, stated that with the new facility in place, Obawole and environs will get 22 hours of steady daily power supply while also assuring to extend the services to other areas within the council. 

Also speaking, the Business Manager, Abule-Egba Undertaking, Prince Oloyede Adelakun, thanked God for bringing to reality the promise he made to Obawole residents at the height of the agitations for improved power supply in the area.

Pastor Opajobi, said among others that Ikeja Electric should replace  all wooden electricity poles with concrete poles because they are in bad state, as well as the cable wire to  also be replaced with alluminium conductors.

The duo of CDC Chairman, Alhaji A.A.Onifade and Baale of Ojokoro, Chief Soetan, thanked Ifako-Ijaiye Council  helsman and others for making the project come true.

Highpoint of the event was award presentation to the  council chief, Apostle  Oloruntoba Oke;  Ikeja Electric CEO, Engr. Jide Ikumapayi;  Chairman, Obawole  United  Forum, Pastor  Olu Opajobi,  Business  Manager, Abule-Egba Undertaking, Prince Oloyede Adelakun.
