Court remands 2 for allegedly beating up neighbour during couple’s fight

A Karshi Grade I Area Court, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered that two friends who allegedly assaulted their neighbour, who intervened during a couple’s fight.

The police charged Luka Monday, 20, and Shittu Zakka, 25,were charged with joint act, membership of unlawful assembly, being in possession of dangerous weapons, disturbance of public peace, inciting disturbance, criminal force, mischief, intimidation and causing hurt.

The Judge, Anas Isah, gave the order after the defendants pleaded not guilty.

The judge adjourned the case until June 25, for continuation of hearing and bail.

The Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that Mr Abdullahi Mohammed who lives in Kugbo Area of Abuja,   reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on May 26.

Adeyanju alleged that the defendants,  assaulted him when he intervened in fight between Monday and his wife.

He said that Monday tore the complainant’s shirt and singlet, valued at N8,500 and stole his phone .

The prosecution also alleged that investigations revealed that the defendants belonged to a cult that terrorises residents of Kugbo.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 97, 319, 113, 114, 397, 265, 247 and 327 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
