Court remands hemp dealer pending sentencing

A Federal High Court in Ibadan, on Thursday ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Wasiu Olatunbosun, in a correctional centre, pending his sentencing for dealing in 700 grams of hemp.

Justice Patricia Ajoku gave the order following a plea of guilty by Olatunbosun on a one-count charge of unlawful dealing in Cannabis.

Ajoku, then adjourned the case until March 2 for review of facts and sentencing.

Earlier, Mr R.J. Himinkaiye, Counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 6 at 8.30 p.m at Owode Motor Park, Oyo Town.

Himinkaiye said that the NDLEA operatives apprehended Olatunbosun with a bag containing the 700 grams of hemp.

He said that the offence contravened Section 11 (C) of NDLEA Act Cap n30, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004. (NAN)
