Court sentences 5 persons to 1-year imprisonment each for cybercrime

A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced five persons to one year imprisonment each for various offences bordering on cyber fraud.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed the charges against the convicts and subsequently secured their convictions.

The convicts are Akibu Oluwadamilola from Oyo State; Animasahaun Ahmed from Lagos; Hammed Opeyemi from Kwara; Ibitowa Abolayo, Salaudeen Muritala and Olagoke Hammed from Osun.

Delivering judgment, Justice Muhammed Sani held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and the defendants were guilty of their respective charges.

The Judge, therefore, sentenced all the defendants to one year imprisonment each.

Justice Sani gave Oluwadamilola option of a fine of N200,000, while Ahmed was given an option of a fine of N59,900, while Opeyemi, Abolayo and Muritala were given an option of fine of N100,000.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of all the exotic vehicles, phones and laptops, including the various sums of money in their bank accounts to the Federal Government.
