COVID-19: Baba Ijebu donates N300m to Lagos govt

A philanthropist and businessman, Sir Keshington Adebutu, has donated N300million to the Lagos State Government towards the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state.

Popularly called Baba Ijebu, Sir Adebutu had in a letter dated March 30, 2020 and addressed to the Lagos State Governor, said the donation was his own way of assisting those that are down with the viral disease.

“On behalf of myself, my entire family and organisation, we commend the dynamic efforts of Your Excellency in bringing succour to the sufferers of COVID-19 in the state.

“As a token of our support to the victims, myself, family and organisation are donating a modest sum of N300,000,000.00 (Three Hundred Million Naira Only) towards which we have forwarded the necessary instruction and our Banker–Wema Bank Plc has transferred the sum into the dedicated UBA Account number 1022751273 of LASG COVID-19.

A“Copies of our cheque and receipt of the payment are attached for easy reference”, Adebutu stated. Daily Trust reports that Lagos state has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, just as the Lagos toll hits 68 on Sunday night, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had a few days ago also announced some palliative measures put in place to tackle the pandemic, including a lockdown of the state.

Also on Monday, the state government said it has discharged five more #COVID19 patients from the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, thus bringing the total number of those who had fully recovered and discharged in the state to eight.
