The Lagos State Community Development Advisory Committee (LSCDAC) flagged off a state-wide campaign on preventive measures against the Coronavirus pandemic yesterday, with a call on Nigerians to protect their lives as the state’s daily COVID-19 caseload continues to soar.
Flagging off the campaign at the Iyana-Ipaja motor park, the LSCDAC Chairman Alhaji Azees Amusat, accompanied by other executive members of the Committee and other CDA/CDC officers, said the COVID-19 compliance campaign is to commemorate the 55th birthday anniversary of its grand patron and governor of the state, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
Amusat who expressed worry at the growing daily figures of Coronavirus pandemic in the state, said total compliance to the safety measures as spelt out by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) remains the panacea to flatten the curve and reduce the community transmission of the disease.
He urged the masses to partner the government in its efforts to set the state free from being the most endemic state in the country.
He said: “The governor’s message is that the isolation centres are over-full and there’s no longer bed spaces for anyone, forcing the government to consider home treatment for any asymptomatic or mild cases of the COVID-19. The government has raised medical team in each CDAs and all you need to do is inform your CDA chairman or any of your officials who will get the appropriate authorities notified and such cases would be treated at home, as only severe cases would be admitted in government facilities.”
Enlightening the masses on the NCDC protocols, the LSCDAC chairman said; “all markets and garages are expected to have running water facilities where everyone are expected to wash their hands, and thereafter use alcohol based sanitiser. Wearing of face mask is compulsory anytime we are going out and we should observe strict physical/social distancing in any crowded place.”
At the Abattoir, Amusat whose message was interpreted in Hausa for the benefit of the huge Hausa population in the facility urged everyone not to trivialise the pandemic but do everything in their power to prevent it, rather than being infected.
He said personal hygiene, social distancing and the use of face mask remain the way to cut arrest the virus and help the state get out of the clutches of the disease.
He urged the various market and community leaders to take the message serious to protect their members and themselves, as everybody is not safe for every person infected by the disease.
The Community Development Advisory Committee also took the campaign to the Ojota and Ikeja motor parks to sensitise the people to the dangers of COVID-19 and how to stop further spread of the disease in the state.
