SUNRISE NEWS, Ogun, July 24, 2020 This year’s Ojude Oba festival which draws all Ijebu sons and daughters to the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland has been cancelled.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the coordinator of the festival and Bagbimo of Ijebu Chief Fassy Yusuf on behalf of the Organising Committee said the cancellation was informed by the rising cases of Coronavirus pandemic.
The Awujale of Ijebuland Oba Dr Sikiru Kayode Adetona approved the cancellation in deference to medical advice and dictates of the environment.
The global festival which would have held on Sunday August 2, 2020, which is two days after Eid-el-Kabir.
The monarch wished all Ijebu sons and daughters the best of the season and enjoined them to always abide with all COVID-19 safety protocol.
The Oba as well as the committee placed on record the contributions of the main sponsor of the yearly festival Globalcom Limited and other sponsors including the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Rite Foods Limited for making the festival a global event. The statement also thanked the state government for its continued partnership while hoping that subsequent festivals would be characterized by peace, tranquility, health and prosperity.
